How does a Skills Passport work?

 

A Skills Passport is an individuals on-line record of skills, qualifications and achievements which can be accessed by authorised organisations such as training providers and employers for the purpose of viewing and maintaining skills records. A person can obtain their skills passport either by going online to the skills passport web site or it can be issued to them by their employer, training provider, college, recruitment agent or any other organisation who is a registered verifier.

 

An individuals skills passport can be maintained and accessed by the individuals supporting organizations such as their employer or training provider.

 

Each individual owns and controls access to their skills passport and what is displayed on it regardless of whether their paid for their own skills passport or it was issued to them by their employer or other organization.

 

How much will a skills passport cost me?

 

Unless your skills passport has been provided by your employer, college, recruitment agent or other organisation, your Skills Passport will cost you £8.51 (+VAT) per year for hosting your passport. This includes unlimited, free additional updates, unrestricted access to CV Builder and My Goals development planner.

 

How can I pay?

 

When you apply for your own Skills Passport you will be required to pay on-line via WorldPay®. WorldPay® (which is part of The Royal Bank of Scotland) is the most secure payment system on the internet. It takes credit, debit and electron cards details for payment. The system is set as an annual payment.

 

How can I get my photo on my Skills Passport?

 

Your Skills Passport cannot be verified and we cannot send you will not receive your Skills Passport until you have attached a photo to your skill passport. This is usually done as part of the application process by simply attaching your photo image file. However, you can also send a photo by email to photo@purplepassport.com or you can send a photo along with your written application directly to PurplePassport Ltd.

 

What is “My Goals”?

 

Every member has a ‘My Goals’ function which is accessible from their ‘My Skills Passport’ page. My Goals allows you to setup a personal development plan by setting out your goals and then breaking them down into manageable milestones. Skills Passport will then assist you by emailing you reminders to prompt you to take the appropriate action at the right time to ensure you stay on track to achieve your personal targets.

 

How can I get my passport verified?

 

You can get your passport verified by taking the certificates or documentation supporting your skill or qualification to your employer or other registered verifier (for example a training provider) or local job centre.

What is a “Registered Verifier”?

A registered verifier is any organisation (employer, training provider, educational establishment or other responsible employer) who has successfully applied to become a Skills Passport verifier. A registered verifier you can verify details on any individuals skills passport and submit applications on behalf of new skills passport applicants. Registered verifiers are governed by a code of conduct, compliance to which is independently monitored by external audit.

Who can apply to become a “Registered Verifier”

Any legally registered organisation who can demonstrate that they are a responsible employer with a commitment to personnel development can apply to become a registered verifier. Employers, educational establishments, recruitment agencies, job centres can be registered verifiers.

 

How can I find out if my employer is a Registered Verifier?

 

Log in to the Skills Passport website and go to your account page and click on "My Passport”. You will see a link to “Registered Verifiers”. Click on the link and you can search for your employer. If your employer is not listed you can introduce them to Skills Passport and receive credits on your own Skills Passport account.

 

How can I get my employer to become a Registered Verifier?

 

You can download an ‘Introduce My Employer’ document from your skills passport admin page. Simply print this off and hand it to your employer to alert your manager or HR manager to the Skills Passport website and ask them to register.

 

How much will it cost an employer to become a Registered Verifier?

 

All charges for registered verifier subscription have been suspended until further notice. Becoming a Skills Passport registered verifier is currently FREE.
To look at the details on the Skills Passport site is free to all employers. All the employer needs to do is visit the site and put in the employees/students Skills Passport number.

 

How can I get my passport verified if my employer is not a registered verifier or I am not currently employed?

 

If either your employer is not a registered verifier or you are not currently employed you can still get your skills passport verified by any number of other registered verifiers.

 

How can I find my nearest registered verifier?

 

To find your nearest registered verifier, simply go to your skills passport admin page, type in your post code and you will be provided with a list of your nearest registered verifiers.

 

Are Registered Verifiers graded?

 

Yes. Registered verifiers are automatically graded according to certain criteria such as length of time in operation, number of employees and tangible commitment to training and personnel development. We grade verifiers so that organisations viewing member’s passports gain an objective assessment of the verifier.
